Zombie and Ghoul Scary Halloween Masks
These scary and gory masks tend to fall into the category of generic scary Halloween masks but they are probably the most fun and best looking of all the masks. Especially if you get one that is totally unique. There are so many different variations, styles and designs that it is almost guaranteed that the mask you buy will be unique. Plus, there’s the added bonus of being able to scare the crap out of anyone and everyone at a party.

There are some designs that are either really bad just downright comical that you would want to avoid. Scary Halloween Masks Based on Horror Movie Characters
There are so many different characters from movies that have been made into scary Halloween masks that you might have a hard time choosing which one you want to wear. For horror fans like myself this process can be extremely difficult because I have so many favorites. Here are some of the mask I have worn or friends of mine have worn over the year that I really liked. See pics of the mask at the end of this article.
Jason (Friday the 13th) – The horror icon from the Friday the 13th series is a simple hockey mask with a few alterations made to it over the years. This is one mask where no one mask is the same in each movie. This gives the person who wears it a chance to be creative and base it on their favorite movie or scene from a movie.
Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) – The infamous stalker of dreams. Arguably the most popular horror movie icon ever created. Nearly everyone has had a friend who was a fan and dressed up as Freddy Krueger on Halloween. A remake of the original was released in early 2010 so there is bound to be a few new mask styles coming out.
Michael Myers – The ultimate scary Halloween mask based on the character from the film Halloween. Taking the classic mask and adding your own personal touch to it looks great.
Pinhead (Hellraiser) – Actually any of the bad guys from Hellraiser would make great costumes. Pinhead is the character that most people think of when Hellraiser is mentioned.
Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) – To this day the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is my favorite horror movie of all time. I will never, ever get tired or watching the original or TCM Part 2.
These are just a handful of the great horror movie icons. There are so many others from so many different eras.

Scary Halloween Masks and the Origins of Halloween
The origins of Halloween date back to the 16th Century. Back then it was nothing more than a celebration for Pagans (Samhain) and Christians (All Saints Day). Since that time it has evolved into a secular holiday and is, for the most part a holiday for kids. You wouldn’t know it the way that adults and retailers celebrate the holiday though. Regardless of whether you like it for reasons of faith or just need an excuse to dress up and party most people just want to have fun.
Halloween has also become synonymous with horror. Horror movies, horror music, horror costumes and scary Halloween masks just to name a few. Several companies have taken their different products and given them a Halloween theme. For example, there’s Halloween themed Monopoly, too many different candies to mention and pretty much anything you can think of. I am a huge fan of Halloween and always indulge in the Halloween themed items I see around that time of year.
When it comes to scary Halloween masks the immediate thing people think of are the various characters from movie and TV. Characters like Jason, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Jigsaw, Pinhead and the demons from Hellraiser, Alien, Predator and so many more. There are the general monsters like the vampire, werewolf, Frankenstein, the Mummy, clowns, jesters, devils and scarecrows. There are also plenty of obscure designs that are sometimes more frightening than the run of the mill horror characters.
